Eat More Protein to Build More Muscle

February 23, 2009 By Brad Pilon

"Eat big to get big. Eat protein to build more muscle" At the surface, this makes sense. After all it works for our fat right? The more calories we eat the bigger our fat gets, so it makes some sort of sense that the more protein we eat the bigger our muscles will get. What we are describing is a basic dose-response relationship. A very simplified version of a … [Read more...] about Eat More Protein to Build More Muscle

Awesome Triceps Exercise

January 22, 2009 By Brad Pilon

Here's a great triceps exercise that I've been using to boost my triceps strength in my quest to hit 225 pounds on the standing shoulder press. I'm not a kettle bell expert by any means, but using a bell does make this exercise a lot better (harder) then using a traditional dumbbell. Be sure not to drop the kettlebell on your head! BP Awesome Triceps Exercise … [Read more...] about Awesome Triceps Exercise

Here's a fun experiment for all you research junkies. Shoulder Pressing 225 Pounds

January 7, 2009 By Brad Pilon

This is my new years goal for 2009 ('goal' sounds way better than 'resolution') I've actually been working at this goal for a couple of months now, ever since I got involved in a friendly wager with the boys over at AdonisEffect.com. The deal is this - It's a race to see who can do a standing barbell shoulder press with 225 pounds first. The only rules is that it has to … [Read more...] about Shoulder Pressing 225 Pounds

I heard two very interesting pieces of advice in the gym today. Why we hate the BMI

A new study adds to the growing evidence that an elevated BMI increases the risk of a heart attack in otherwise healthy people. In what has been called the largest study of its kind (data on over 500,000 people) researchers classified participants based on their body mass index (BMI), calculated as weight (kg) divided […]

How Many Calories can you Burn in a day?

Have you ever stopped to think that there might be an upper-limit to how many calories you can burn in a day? Basically a ‘ceiling rate’ at which we can burn through calories? Probably not, but don’t worry… I did for you! I’ve heard rumors of people eating well over 10,000 calories during a single […]

Reverse Taper Intermittent Fasting

The concept of the Reverse Taper Diet is still one of my favorite ideas. Without getting too technical, the concept is that you should be in your largest calorie deficit (eating the least amount of food) at the beginning of your diet, when you have the most fat to lose and thus the most fat […]

Fasting for Weight Loss – Setting the Record Straight

Paleo eating and vegan eating are the EXACT SAME THING. This is why any and all research on Paleo diets can be used for Vegan diets, and vice versa. It’s also why any personal experiences people have had with a Vegan diet can be directly applied to what you will probably experience with the Paleo […]
