Television: The ANTI-Awesome (and anti six pack abs)

September 15, 2010 By Brad Pilon

TV does not want you to be awesome.TVawesome

It warns you against being awesome every single day.

Losing weight, getting six pack abs, working out, getting a better job…all bad.

What’s worse…it warns our kids about the horrors of Awesomeness.

Don’t believe me? Let’s look at some case studies…

What happened when Bill from King of the Hill started working out? He got six pack abs. He also became a vain, self-obsessed Jerk. In the end everything became better once he went back to being a lazy, fat, divorced, spineless, jobless, but kind-hearted neighbor.

What happened when Peter from Family Guy started working out? He got six pack abs too. He also became a vain, arrogant jerk. His family hated him for it, but don’t worry, everything became better once he went back to being average.

What happened when Marge Simpson from the Simpson’s started working out? Six pack abs and..yep…Same thing.

What happened when ANY character on ANY show becomes exceptional? Better Job, More Money, Better Life?

Things get bad…and fast.

And I mean ANY show…watch what happens when people try to be exceptional.

Lesson learned.

TV says it’s better to be average.

Luckily TV isn’t real life.

There is no horror in being Awesome.

There is nothing wrong with being proud of your accomplishments.

Striving for awesomeness is not a crime either (even though you are already awesome).

Here’s another case study.

Real Life people who have accomplished great things.

Take Wealthy people.

I’ve met a lot of them.

I’ve been jealous. I’ve used the ‘right place right time’ excuse in trying to explain their achievements.

But now I know better.

They owe there achievements to their hard work and their belief in themselves and their lack of feeling shame in their pride.

They owe their achievements to being awesome.

Another example would be people who are lean and muscular.

Genetics (I get this one a lot)

Luck?

Fast metabolism?

All wrong.

They owe there achievements to their hard work and their belief in themselves and their lack of feeling shame in their pride.

They owe their achievements to being awesome.

I’m proud of Eat Stop Eat. I’m proud of the fact that I workout. I’m proud of the way I look. There is nothing wrong with this.

So bottom line and reason for this post – Don’t let TV rob you of your awesomeness.

Be awesome instead.

Why we hate the BMI

A new study adds to the growing evidence that an elevated BMI increases the risk of a heart attack in otherwise healthy people. In what has been called the largest study of its kind (data on over 500,000 people) researchers classified participants based on their body mass index (BMI), calculated as weight (kg) divided […]

How Many Calories can you Burn in a day?

Have you ever stopped to think that there might be an upper-limit to how many calories you can burn in a day? Basically a ‘ceiling rate’ at which we can burn through calories? Probably not, but don’t worry… I did for you! I’ve heard rumors of people eating well over 10,000 calories during a single […]

Reverse Taper Intermittent Fasting

The concept of the Reverse Taper Diet is still one of my favorite ideas. Without getting too technical, the concept is that you should be in your largest calorie deficit (eating the least amount of food) at the beginning of your diet, when you have the most fat to lose and thus the most fat […]

Fasting for Weight Loss – Setting the Record Straight

Paleo eating and vegan eating are the EXACT SAME THING. This is why any and all research on Paleo diets can be used for Vegan diets, and vice versa. It’s also why any personal experiences people have had with a Vegan diet can be directly applied to what you will probably experience with the Paleo […]
