Why think beyond Nutrition and Exercise?
Because there is so much more that is in our control.
We can’t change the air we breathe, our genetics or whatever the long term effects of being surrounded by cell phone signals, wi-fi, and the like…but we can control what we eat, how much we move AND we can control our actions.
And our actions DO EFFECT our physiology.
(Think about the feeling you get when you get caught doing something really bad…like a speeding ticket…it’s not just mental it is a whole body reaction.)
Here’s a great quote from Dr. Zhivago:
“Your health is bound to be affected if, day after day, you say the opposite of what you feel, if you grovel before what you dislike… Our nervous system isn’t just fiction, it’s part of our physical body, and it can’t be forever violated with impunity.”
There’s more to health than organic foods, protein, fish oil and interval training.

“and interval training” hahahahahah
very funny.
some people are just so revved up by that, it gets really amusing.
So true. Being in good health is great, but sometimes the problems we have are, for example, the company we’re keeping. Some people are worse for us than any junk food could ever be!
Over and over again, I keep hearing the “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” bit, and I have to wonder what damage is being done with this. How about saying that the root of many problems is the one touted by Taco Bell (I think it is) – which is “Fourthmeal – the one between dinner and breakfast”.
Taco Bell makes me feel sick (I don’t even find pleasure consuming the stuff) but the “Fourthmeal” sure does make me happy. I do the “Fourthmeal” ever so often, just not Taco Bell (my favorite is gumbo from my late night cajun joint). With ESE, I’m actually quite comfortable with the “Fourthmeal”.
I blame what makes me crave the Fourthmeal, alcohol binging.
If I’m to follow one health blog let it be the one that quotes Dr. Zhivago.
And to your point: we can’t change the air we breathe, but we can do breathing exercises, we don’t have full control of our environment but we can practice self-control, we can’t eliminate the noise, but we can cherish periods of silence.
After practicing IF for a while, I crave my fast day the way I would crave a favorite treat. And for that I thank you.
I was at 210 last month and after months of dieting and trying to figure out “what wasn’t working” I found eat stop eat. I have been weight training for going on a year now, and while I am a lot stronger, my weight lost stalled. last month I started doing full body workouts coupled with, very light cardio (HR 120 – 130) on my rest days, AND of course eat stop eat and I’ve dropped from 26% BF to around 19%.
This week is my first week of doing 2x / week fasts. I have noticed some headaches and stomach pain coming off of a fast, is this normal?
I posted something here at the beginning, looks to have been deleted again? Not sure why so much editing goes on, but here goes again.
Per Ryan above, I wonder are there any negative effects to watch out for with ESE? I have had some back pain, was worried it might be kidneys? I have tried to drink a lot of water, and keep my protein normal. could be just fatigue though. Also, I have had some headaches, which I normally don’t get. Since I drink quite a bit of fluids, I don’t THINK it is de-hydration, but wonder if it might be glucose withdrawl?
Is there anything anyone thinks might be downsides to IF?
wow, and then BOOM my first comment appears at the top again? What sort of filter is on here?
The power of the mind, its everything.
I have not done intermittent fasting yet seriously, only two or three trials, but in the past I used to fast on Hindu religious festivals.
Some physical discomfort is normal during fasting. I don’t know how much of this is emotional. The headache can come from tension. It can also be that your body is getting used to fasting and the mental tension is like muscle soreness after starting a new workout regime. The stomach pain might come from eating too much right after breaking the fast. It’s recommended to break a fast gently with some light food some hours before eating a larger meal.
People who are new to ESE must understand that its not a one size fit all and its another system where you must experiment.
I have been doing it for 2 months now, and found out that i needed to reajust my eating many times.
I fast for at least 12 hours a day, for my 2 days of 24 i might do 18 hours and sometimes 27 hours depending on how i feel.
At fist i kind of lost my appetit but as time goes by it will adjuste and come back.
Glade to say that i have gone from 231 pounds to 210 pounds and no it did not do it perfectly and yes i still cheat a lot.
For people who are weight lifting i found that i needed to eat a bit more because at some point i did suffer from lack of energy. This happened when i started lifting heavier weights.
Its all about calories in vs calories out and you really need to create a
500 calories deficit to lose the weight.
Most people will find that eating only 2 meals a day is all they need, and one of theses meals for me is usually frozen fruits.
I still lost weight with milk, chocolate, some very high carb foods and more in my diet but i did cut out the nuts, because they are really high in calories and i do think they are not worth the calorie content for there health benefits.
I can not stop thinking about the Anne image. I love her! Anne Mary style. swoon
