My fast metabolism secret

Eat Stop Eat has some peculiar (and potent) effects…

Most obviously, it’ll help you lose weight.

AND, it helps you overcome obsessive compulsive eating.

But, it also causes some issues…

As a group, people following Eat Stop Eat have chosen NOT to ‘buy-in’ to the typical nutrition nonsense.

We’ve learned that to be lean, all we have to do is workout and eat less…(kinda obvious, I know)

And, we’ve also learned to relax about what we eat..try to eat responsibly, but also enjoy the foods we like.

So why is this an issue?

Well, because everyone else just can’t FIGURE US OUT.

They don’t believe it can be this easy.

So they look for other explanations…

Let’s face it, we’re becoming a group of people that other people HATE…

We are actually those people who “Eat whatever they want are are still losing weight / stay lean”

Just the other day, we had a family friend accuse my wife of having a ‘fast metabolism’!

Yeah, It MUST be our super fast metabolisms icon wink My fast metabolism secret

So in a round-about way the problem with Eat Stop Eat is this:

We might actually be contributing to other people’s nutrition-confusion.

But really, they choose what they want to believe.

If they WANT to believe the ONLY POSSIBLE way to lose weight it to never eat another MICROGRAM of sugar ever again..fine.

With ESE you truly can have your cake and eat it too!

Good food, lean body, less stress.

BP

PS – How would you like to be the person that everyone accuses of having a “fast metabolism”?

You know what else I love about the ESE?

I totally cleared out all of my subscriptions to “trainer” and “fitness” blogs who spout about not eating sugar, carb loading, the 6 meal thing, staggering macronutrients, blah, blah, blah…. now I have more free time and my mind isn’t cluttered with all this contradictory information – thanks Brad!!!

    good article brad,
if anyone ask me, how i can get my sixpacks although i eat whatever i want to eat. I said “I have a great metabolism, so my body burn fat quick :p ”

    coz if i say “i do fasting 2 times a week…”
they’ll don’t believe me and call me a liar. but, i don’t care about that, i still enjoy my life, eat less n move more and get a lean body.

    thx for ur support brad

    Brad,
Again what you say is so simple that people just cannot believe.
Last week i was at the party and told people about my experiment with ESE i have been doing for two months, and they lough at me and said that i am stupid and try to starve myself.
I could not convince them at all. I will just keep it for myself, but i will have a cake today and i am not worried.
I will just do ESE tomorrow.

thx again for all your hard work

    Brad,

You have an excellent product here. It has allowed me to reduce my stress levels, and get the body I always wanted.

For years I lifted and exercised like crazy and ate six meals a day and always had a layer of flab covering my abs. After just a couple months of eating less with ESE my abs were uncovered. I also didn’t lose any strength and I now barely do ab work or cardio work (for years I spent lots of hours doing both). I am now approaching a year of two to three fasts per week and it works great.

When I had a layer of flab I only ate spinich, broccolli, fruit, lean meat and beans. The typical “clean” diet. While I still eat a lot of those foods (they are good and delicious) I also can enjoy booze, ice cream, pizza, and homemade goodness like mashed potatoes, pies, cakes, lasagna, spaghetti and plenty of bread. I just know not to eat too much of it and enjoy it with friends and family stress free. I fast when I’m working or by myself and eat great foods with my loved ones otherwise. It’s made my life so much better knowing this approach. It is a very good feeling having this area of my life covered and having the body I always wanted.

    Thanks Brad,

    ~Mike

I went in to a gas station the other day and it was quite a refreshing thought to think i could eat anything i want to in here without it being the end of the world. I didn’t get anything, but i could have.

I have become wayyyyy more neurotic about every single food it put to my lips since ESE but only because i have not reached desired weight/size. (i was once this size so its not an unrealistic goal). That doesn’t mean i don’t eat most of what i want just less of it. Cheers ….

I am doing ESE, but on some of my fast days, I get very hungry. Other days, I almost forget I am not eating. What might contribute to the feelings of hunger on some days and not on others? The idea that the hunger sensations will go away in 20 minutes or so, is not always proving to be true. Then I fee that I am back to willpower again. Tell me what you think.

  8. Bill Daly says:

    Brad,

Obviously you’d champion your style of IFing, but I’ve noticed that Martin Berkhan stops by here occasionally, so you guys obviously have a solid rapport.

For someone interested in trying IFing, would you suggest trying out both systems and seeing which one is more of a fit for you personally?

HAving just been recently turned onto both of your websites, this is a question I’ve begun to ponder, however I understand if you feel this isn;t an appropriate place to be asking such a question.

  9. Thom says:

I just enjoyed a breakfast consisting a bowl of chocolate cereal and a carrot. Before ESE I would never have done something so “reckless”. I used to make sure that I had at least 20 grams of protein every time I ate (no matter how often I ate). Granted, I normally eat pretty normal foods, but it’s nice not having to worry about having a carrot and chocolate cereal for breakfast. I eat what I want!

P.S. I didn’t mix the chocolate cereal with the carrot.

  10. Big Jay says:

    Brad,

Some days when I fast, I definitely feel hungry. The hunger is more than a fleeting sensation lasts 20-30 minutes. Other days, I barely notice that I have not eaten. What can cause these fluctuations in hunger during my fasts? Any understanding would help.

“it helps you overcome obsessive compulsive eating.”

How’s that? For the last 6 or so hours of my 24 hour fast, all I can think about is food. Then I just end up eating what is probably a day’s worth of calories into that small time window..

    Hi Brad-

Love this post- very simple but to the point. My personal favorite actually is if you decide to tell people how your doing it you will no doubt hear “but that’s not healthy” when in reality it is very healthy to give all your body systems a rest, not to have your body in a metabolic state every three hours. As you have said many times over we have all been brainwashed that we need to eat to lose weight-amazing! People would actually be surprised to find out that they just might feel better when they are in a fasting state and as long as I have been fasting I am always surprised when all of a sudden I feel warmth rushing through my entire body after I start eating-to feel the physiologic effects of food is amazing. Keep posting!!

I love it when other people are jealous, when i was younger i was very skinny and suffer greatly from bullying and abuse from the bigger guys.

I have train my @ss of with weights, martial arts and boxing and changed my body 180 degree.

I am much older now but still see some people i went to college with and its such a satisfaction for me to see that most of them have become fat and ugly and at the age of 37 i could ace them i any type of sport.

Now with eat stop eat everything is going to be even better.

Today i don’t care what people think about me, i never take anything personal, i am a P90X grade, and am currently trying Insanity along with Eat stop Eat and my energy level as never been that high.

I am proud of myself because i was able to develop my body with years and years of training, things that jealous idiots never understand.

  14. Brad Pilon says:

    HI Bill,

Here’s my quick opinion on IF.

I like my version best (obviously biased). Then I prefer versions where you eat every day, as opposed to prolong fasting. So I prefer Martin’s ideas over fasting 5 days straight.

That being said, one thing to clarify about martin’s system… and this is that it’s only really LeanGains if Martin is coaching you.. So if you are planning on getting lean using martin’s program I’d suggest talking to him directly about the ins and outs of it.

I say let keep on hating you. I think Eat, Stop Eat is really one of the only programs on the market that shows any realistic results. Hate=Uncontrolled Envy.

  17. yannick says:

Brad i do have a quick question, i just receive my Turbulence Training book.

Now the first thing they mention is eat 6 small meals a day and make sure to get at least 1g of protein per pound of body weight?

That is far from eat stop eat.

The workout looks very good tought but i still think that P90X will give you more bang for your bucks. I wanted to see how this first book would look like before ordering anymore Turbulence books.

Another book that sort of deceived me was The Warrior Diet, as much as i love the theory to eat once a day, Uri pushes is supplements a lot in the book, and the PWO meal is very important to him.

I guess what i am saying is that your books are the only ones people should read because it gets confusing.

Since i started eat stop eat and also read how much protein you really need, i have never had a PWO meal after training, always manage to train after being fasted for 15 hours or more and never lacked energy.

By doing P90X body weight and weight training my muscles are harder then they ever have been.

The only supplement i take is Kre Alkalin creatine because you mentioned in one of your books that creatine is good.

I am now 213 pounds and eat twice a day around 1800 calories per day, and i feel great.

  18. Patrice says:

ESE sounds interesting. I want to eat good food yet have a lean body.

  19. owenscott says:

Alex, i stopped a fast early by a few hours and consumed about 2000 calories in a meal right after that. WOW … It was my second fast other than that i dont know what happened. I decided after that if i was ever that hungry again .. i would eat a small meal EARLIER rather than the 2k large meal.

I found lots of cold water helps stop the hunger and i fast around my sleep schedule. I stop eating … while im awake for awhile … sleep before working the night shift come home take a sleeping pill eat when i wake. This is working for me to get me beyond the 24 to about 30 hours.

As your first meal after a fast try adding some high fat foods . I was just reading about fat having satiating (full stomach feeling) effect.
