Have you ever wondered what would happen if we took all weight loss myths to their true reality?
Well, let’s do it now…
Is it true that Ice water boosts metabolism?
Yes.
But how does this apply to us in reality?
Since drinking 50o ml of water at 3 degrees increases metabolic rate by roughly 3.5 Calories over 90 minutes*…
You would have to drink 500 ml of Ice Cold Water 14 times per day (every 90 minutes all day, all night) to burn an extra 50 Calories
(This is assuming that the effect remains the same each time)
Do this for about 70 days and you’ve theoretically burned an extra pound of fat.
(Again, assuming that the effect remains the same after multiple days of repeat exposure)
I don’t know about you, but to me these weight loss myths aren’t nearly as sexy when we take them down to their reality.
Granted this was from a data set of subjects averaging 150 pounds, so the number may vary slightly, but..well…you still get the
picture.
It’s so much easier just to follow the Eat Stop Eat lifestyle, and ignore, unfriend, unsubscribe, or politely walk away from the people who push these myths.
BP
*Obviously the calculated energy cost of increasing 500 Calories of water from 3 degrees to 37 is 17 Calories, not 3.5, however this discrepancy is documented in studies using indirect calorimetry, with speculation that reduction in head loss via peripheral vasoconstriction is the likely culprit.
Even at the calculated numbers to lose a HIGHLY theoretical extra pound of fat in a month you’d have to drink 500 ml of 3 degree water 7 times per day, every day, for a month.
