Losing 100 pounds Versus losing 10 pounds

Question:

     Hi Brad,

I don’t know if you respond to emails or not, but I am wondering if your Eat Stop Eat plan is also effective for someone who wants to lose 100 pounds?

     Thanks!

Answer:

Despite what some marketing will tell you, the very first step in losing weight is the same regardless of the amount of fat you need to lose. It’s the same physiological process whether you are tying to lose 100 pounds or the mythical ‘last 10 pounds’.

The key is to take that first step. So yes I believe Eat Stop Eat would be effective.

The person who wants to lose 100 pounds really is in much the same boat as the person wanting to lose 10 pounds, in a sense. Both have to lose 10 pounds. One has to do it once. The other has to repeat the process 10 times. My point being twofold. Set and accomplish bite-sized goals. Use a plan which can be reproduced or repeated.

ESE is very simple really. Skip 2 meals twice a week. Combine that with otherwise reasonable eating and exercise.

I’m a big proponent of actually buying Brad’s ESE book and reading it carefully. Reading it several times over several months has really helped me. Adopting the ESE lifestyle has made a great difference in my life and has been simple to do and surprisingly easy.

I’ve been following the ESE plan for over 5 months now. I’ve no doubts about ESE. It’s become a part of my life and I look forward to the days when I skip meals because they’re so easy. Yes, I know that sounds weird if you’re not used to skipping meals voluntarily, but it really is quite easy for me.

I’m making progress towards my goals of being lean and having a six pack. That’s cool. Even better is how easy it’s been and having a well-founded knowledge that what I’m doing now is something I can continue to do, not just another “diet” which will cause me to lose weight and gain it back when the diet is over.

I have advised some of the patients in my medical practice to consider ESE. I think Brad is really on to something here.

I hope that helps answer your question.

Brad, I have a question about lifting weights and muscle gain. I recently came across this website and I was wondering if I couldget your take on it. You might have seen it already and I wanted to know if you believe there is any truth to it.

    http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/08/100811125943.htm

The reason why I bring this up is because I don’t have a ton of weight to work with and this article says that using lighter weights done until failure can build muscle just like high weight low reps can. Do you believe this is true?

Brad, did you ever get that 225 lbs shoulder press? And if you did could you post a video? Or send me a link to it if you did it a long time ago.

And what does 10 lbs of fat look like in general?

I’ve used Eat Stop Eat to lose over 60lbs and hope to drop another 25 in the coming months. ESE works no matter how many lbs you need to drop.

This is beautiful ==> The person who wants to lose 100 pounds really is in much the same boat as the person wanting to lose 10 pounds, in a sense. Both have to lose 10 pounds

So very true. I wish I had known about ESE 67 pounds ago when I started losing weight. Now with 25 or so pounds to go it is becoming a part of my life.

I also loved that line that both need to lose 10 pounds. Very good observation which I will now make when people ask me about losing weight.

  7. Yeas you are right, but when you have the last few pounds to lose it just seems that it is “stubborn” because there is more fat than you thought and the progress is not that visible. That why I think it seems so difficult to lose that last few pounds.

Other than eating less and training, non of this other stuff will make much of a difference.

I really don’t mean to be rude or offensive, but my answer to 2,4,5 really is doesn’t matter.

answer to number 1 is yes, but you still need to eat less.
