The Invictus Workout

invictus l200910271458 The Invictus Workout

Haven’t heard of it yet?

Don’t worry, you will.

Invictus is a new movie that is coming out soon that stars Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman.

So why does it get it’s own workout? Well Matt Damon plays Francois Pienaar, the Captain of South Africa’s Rugby team in the early to mid 1990’s. And, at minute 0:57 of the trailer for Invictus, you see Matt with his shirt off for about 1.5 seconds.

Sounds silly but this is the equation:

Male Hollywood Celebrity Appears “Jacked” in a movie = On-line Hysteria over “How he did it”.

Think the Christian Bale Batman Workout, the Gerard Butler 300 Workout, or the Hugh Jackman Wolverine workout.

It works every time, without fail. Hollywood Celeb gets jacked, someone tries to cash in.

So I’m going to Preempt everyone with this one:

I know EXACTLY how Matt Damon got in shape for this movie…It’s the exact same way Hugh Jackman got in shape, which is the exact same way Gerard Butler got in shape and the same way Christian Bale gets in shape.

They dedicated themselves to Hard work and some form of resistance training.

We should all realize by now that there IS NO SECRET.

It doesn’t matter if you are lifting giant rocks, kettle bells, dumbbells or small barnyard animals.

It’s the hard work that gets the results, not the trendy tools.

Matt, Gerard, Christian, they are no different then you or me…well, other than the lifestyle and money part.

They work hard, they stay dedicated and consistent and they get results. It’s not some secret new workout of the start that until now was kept secret…It’s hard work.

So there you go… If you want to look like a Movie Star, the secret is hard work.

The trick to it all? Next time you are in the gym imagine there is a 10 million dollar movie role on the line. You get in shape, you get the role.

This is so true!!!….I used to fall into the same trap but have come to realize that I need to stop looking to celebreties for their workouts and their diets. Just hard work!!! Plus it will feel so much better when you can say I didnt use someone else workout plan or diet, I used what worked for me…this i also makes it more sustainable.

  2. Tyson says:

Shoot. I was hoping that the secret was a magic pill. I guess I will go back to waiting. Great post btw.

  3. Grok says:

Ha-ha. Hard work and dedication… what a concept!

With 10 million bucks on the line I doubt you’d have too many lazy or cheat days ;)

  4. Jack says:

I don’t follow Hollywood much, but I think Matt Damon had let himself go a bit for a previous role, so this would also make him ripe for some nice rebound gains when he dedicated himself to said hard work in the kitchen and gym. Throw in the ability to make preparing for the movie role his sole focus, and voila.

  5. Liz says:

Ha, great post, Brad! I could point out how much time I could devote to my physique if I had the money to pay others to do my laundry, clean my home, raise my kids, shop for me, do my mail, stand in line at the post office, etc., which brings me to Bobby’s point: DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF TO A CELEBRITY. We’re in two totally different playing fields–there is not much we do about that other than to WORK HARD. And it is hard, especially with all the above that has to be balanced while trying to maintain 8 hours of sleep every night. Yet time and time again, “ordinary” people do the extraordinary and take their health into their hands. If you are one of these people, stick with it and be proud!

Last rant: I feel Americans have gotten too complacent with their health and physique; we’d rather sit on the couch and eat and watch how wonderful the people on TV look…why not turn the damn fantasy off and start living the reality? Once you do this, please encourage others by example. It CAN be done.

  6. Phil says:

I’m sorry but along with all that hard work when men in their 30’s and 40’s start putting on 15-25 lbs of muscle, I think there are some magic pills and syringes.

  7. Ty says:

Yes, the secret is hard work…..

unless you’re Sly Stallone, then the secret = (testosterone+growth hormone)+clenbuterol = freaky old guy ;)

  8. Liz says:

Phil, I’m inclined to agree with you…I really think Hollywood creates a look and cares little for the well-being of the people involved. This explains the drug abuse, and for older men to pack on large quanitities of muscle in a short time for a role, well, you see where I’m getting at.

And what about women in entertainment? Emile Hirsch receives positive attention for starving himself to play a person who starved to death in Into the Wild…yet how many women starve themselves to get 10 seconds of screentime to play a waitress? The movie industry is so far from reality, which is why I think it’s so damaging for average Americans to follow the bogus advice given out by “celebrity experts.”

  9. Ty says:

The thing with the “celebrity look” is that it’s a temporary look. They achieve it for a particular job, the job pays for all the personal trainers, meals etc…. and they have all the free time available to achieve that look. Once the job is finished, they lose the conditioning because a movie studio is no longer paying for their trainers and gym time.

While they are out of condition they stay out of the limelight too. You never see what they really look like. Once Oscar time comes round they get fit again. It’s somewhat of a cyclical thing and someone else is always getting the bill.

You can’t look like that all year round, not naturally anyway. Men have to be careful and realise that the “bodybuilder” look is to men what catwalk models are to women. It’s a look we are naturally attracted too but unrealistic to think that you can look like that all year round.

    HI Ranjit,

No I don’t think. At 5′5″ and 150 pounds, he seems right about where he should be.

  13. Brad Pilon says:

Yep, it’s also an enhanced look…like a photoshoot…they get to pump up, they get great lighting and great angles, they get everything ‘just right’..then they go back to the way they were.

  14. Brad Pilon says:

    All excellent points.

These people live in a different world then we do. They are trying to get as close to CGI as possibe, while still being somewhat human.

    Freaky is right…

He’ll be even bigger and leaner by the time Rambo 8 and Rocky 13 come around….

Great post Brad! Hard work and consistency? Who would have thought……

Older guys packing on weight can turn it around if they adopt the ESE concept.

  17. El says:

Oh my. I was just on the verge of buying “The Truth About Six Pack Abs,” but now I’m wondering if I should save my money, because all it might say is “lift weights” but in a lot of dressed-up language, of course.

Does Brad or anyone have an opinion on this eBook?

  18. Sarah says:

Thanks for posting this. Nicely done! (By the way, I was impressed with your ranking on Yahoo too, good job!) I’ll be checking back later to read some of your other stuff…

  19. Andreas says:

And by the time every halfwit will be searching for “invictus workout”, you will rank #1 on Google. The internet marketer force is strong with you, Brad. It’s nice to see this kind of smarts used to promote the good side of the force for a change.

  20. Brad Pilon says:

Hmmm, I doubt that. I’m really, really bad at all the SEO stuff. So I think the minute anyone else writes an article about this, I’d be about number 100 on google.

I guess that makes me tops for all the non-searched stuff!

  21. JDN says:

It’s called ‘HRT’, basically doctor prescribed steroids. Hormone replacement therapy, bumping up aging men’s testosterone with additional hormones. And if one wants to pack on some muscle the patient bumps up the dosage for awhile. You can bet the rest of the fit celebs are doing the same and probably most others as well. You don’t want low testosterone.

  23. Andreas says:

Haha I knew it! This post is #2 on Google for “invictus workout” at this time.

Thing is, if you have a blog that people find useful, Google will forgive you for bad SEO. They study all kinds of on-site behavior too, like bounce rate, time spent on site and returning visitors. Being the oldest post about the topic does the rest.

    Right on, Brad.

  24. Brad Pilon says:

    Huh..that is cool…

So you don’t need to be a seo ninja…you just need good content.

    Nice.
